RMN of Thursday 6 March 2025

The next Monthly Neuroimaging Meeting will take place on Thursday 6 March from 10:00 to 12:00 in the conference room of CERIMED (access map). The program:

  • 9:30: Welcome coffee followed by two seminars:
  • Andrea Paysserand (INT, Marseille): “The ABCD study: leveraging a cohort for developmental science”
  • Pauline Favre (Translational Neuropsychiatry, Neurospin, Saclay): “Toward Precision Psychiatry: Advancing Neuroimaging Biomarkers Discovery and Personalized Interventions for Mood Disorders”

    • Abstract: Mood disorders, particularly bipolar disorder (BD), involve complex neurocognitive and neurobiological alterations that challenge both diagnosis and treatment. In our latest study (Krystal et al., 2024), we used 3T fMRI to investigate amygdala subnuclei connectivity across different mood states in BD, revealing distinct connectivity patterns that may serve as state-dependent biomarkers of emotional dysregulation. As a next step, we are running two clinical trials: one using 7T fMRI to gain fine-grained resolution of neural alterations in BD, and another using real-time fMRI neurofeedback to train BD patients to better regulate their emotions.
Distinguishing BD from other mood disorders remains a major clinical challenge, as symptoms often overlap, leading to delays in diagnosis and treatment. Our previous work (Claude et al., 2020) demonstrated that single-modality MRI provides only moderate predictive accuracy for BD diagnosis. To improve diagnostic precision, we are now integrating multimodal MRI data (functional and structural) and genetic insights from the UK Biobank, leveraging machine learning to refine classification and prediction models. Looking ahead, the FrenchMinds cohort, developed within the PEPR ProPsy framework, will allow us to further dissect the heterogeneity of mood disorders by combining large-scale multimodal data and optimizing predictive models for personalized therapeutic strategies.
